Protea Vase Arrangement

Protea Vase Arrangement: Pink and Red Queen Proteas Hand-Arranged in a Clear Glass Fishbowl Vase, the Display-Ready Centrepiece for Anniversaries, Sympathy and the South African Moments That Deserve Something Native

A hand-arranged centrepiece of pink proteas, deep red queen proteas, twisting curly willow, restio and native fynbos accents, white wax flower clusters and lush green pittosporum foliage, presented in a clear glass fishbowl vase and delivered display-ready. Every stem locally sourced from South African growers and arranged by our florists in our Claremont, Sea Point and Johannesburg studios on the morning of delivery. Proteas are the national flower of South Africa, native to the Cape fynbos, and this is what they look like when arranged with intent — sculptural, weighty, distinctly local, and ready to lift any room.

Same-day delivery available in Cape Town and Johannesburg for orders placed before 12 pm, Monday to Saturday. For recipients outside our same-day zones, we offer nationwide alternatives below.

What is in the Arrangement

• Pink proteas — the soft pink sculptural heart, ancient and unmistakable.
• Red queen proteas (Protea compacta) — deep burgundy, the dark anchor.
• Twisting curly willow branches — architectural reach, lifting the silhouette above the bowl.
• Restio and native fynbos — wispy textural elements straight from the Cape mountains.
• White wax flower clusters — papery, intricate, the gentle softener.
• Yellow solidago and fern-style greenery — bright contrast to the deep red.
• Lush green pittosporum and salal foliage — the substantial frame around the proteas.
• A clear glass fishbowl vase — round, weighty, theirs to keep long after the proteas are gone.

Stems are conditioned by our florists, then arranged in the fishbowl vase the morning of delivery. Every Protea Vase Arrangement leaves the bench at its absolute peak.

Proteas are seasonal and the exact mix shifts week to week. If a particular stem is not at its peak on the day of delivery, our florists will swap it for a like-for-like fynbos substitution in the same pink-and-red native palette. The overall feel and colour story stay true to the photograph.

Why This Arrangement Works

Most vase arrangements try to do too much — every kind of flower, every kind of colour, every kind of greenery. The Protea Vase Arrangement does the opposite. It commits to one story: South African fynbos in a glass bowl, sculptural and unfussy. The pink proteas against the red queens, the curly willow reaching up, the restio holding the wild texture, and the fishbowl letting you see every stem from every angle. It lands as a piece of permanent home decor, not a transient bunch of flowers.

Protea Vase is South Africa in a glass bowl. Pink proteas against red queens. Curly willow reaching up like fynbos in the wind. The arrangement that brings the Cape mountains indoors and asks the room to slow down for a moment.

It is the arrangement we send for anniversaries with a sense of place, birthdays for him when traditional bouquets feel too soft, sympathy and funeral sends where dignity matters more than softness, congratulations for milestone moments, thank-you sends to corporate hosts, and birthdays when the recipient loves the wilder, native palette. It sits at the heart of our wider protea bouquets range, alongside the smaller proteas collection.

Vase vs Bouquet: Why Choose the Vase Format

The Protea Vase Arrangement is display-ready. The recipient does not need to find a vase, trim stems, top up water or arrange anything. They lift the lid off the box, set the vase down on a table, and the room is finished. Choose this format for offices, hotel suites, hospital recovery rooms, corporate gifts, or for anyone who would simply rather receive a complete centrepiece than a project. For the same flowers in a hand-tied wrapped bouquet, see our sister Protea Garden Flower Bouquet.

Built by Real Florists, From Our Cape Town and Johannesburg Studios

Proteas are not a flower you can fake. Anyone searching for a florist in Cape Town or a real flower shop near me who understands fynbos should be sending proteas, not roses pretending to be local. We have been arranging South African native flowers from our Claremont studio for over twenty-five years, with a full Johannesburg flower delivery network supporting same-day sends north. Two studios, the JHB depot, and over 5,000 reviews across Loox, Google and Trustpilot stand behind every arrangement that leaves the bench.

Locally Grown. Genuinely South African.

Every protea in this arrangement is grown in South Africa, mostly within a few hours of our Claremont studio in the Western Cape — the only place in the world the king protea grows natively. No imported flowers, no carbon-heavy supply chain, fewer days in cold storage. Buying a protea arrangement is one of the most sustainable cut-flower decisions you can make in South Africa. For more on why that matters, read our piece on sustainable gifts. For the wider hand-arranged range, browse our flower arrangements and flower bouquets selections.

Our 5-Day Freshness Guarantee (Proteas Last Far Longer)

Every Fabulous Flowers arrangement is backed by our 5-day freshness guarantee. If your flowers are not in beautiful condition five days after delivery, we will replace them. In practice, proteas are one of the longest-lasting cut flowers we sell — most stems hold their shape for two to three weeks in a vase, and many can be dried and kept indefinitely as a sculptural reminder. For care, read our flower care guide or our piece on how to take care of flowers in a vase.

From Our Cape Town Studio Since 1999

We have been arranging proteas from our Claremont studio for over twenty-five years. Two studios, a Johannesburg delivery network, and over 5,000 reviews across Loox, Google and Trustpilot. The Protea Vase Arrangement is one of our most-sent corporate, sympathy and gifts-for-him orders because it carries weight, lasts longer than almost anything else we sell, arrives display-ready, and feels distinctly South African in a way no imported flower can match.

Frequently Asked Questions

What flowers are in the Protea Vase Arrangement?

Pink proteas, red queen proteas (Protea compacta), twisting curly willow branches, restio and native fynbos accents, white wax flower clusters, yellow solidago and fern-style greenery, with lush green pittosporum and salal foliage — all hand-arranged in a clear glass fishbowl vase. Every stem locally sourced from South African growers and arranged the morning of delivery.

What is the difference between the Protea Vase Arrangement and the Protea Garden Bouquet?

The Protea Vase Arrangement arrives in a clear glass fishbowl vase, display-ready, no vase to find. The Protea Garden Flower Bouquet is hand-tied and wrapped in kraft paper, with the recipient putting it into their own vase. Choose the vase arrangement for offices, hotels, hospital rooms and corporate sends. Choose the bouquet when the recipient enjoys arranging flowers themselves.

What does the protea symbolise?

Proteas symbolise courage, change, transformation and diversity. The name comes from the Greek god Proteus, who could change form at will — fitting for a flower with more than 1,400 species across hundreds of shapes and colours. The protea (Protea cynaroides) is the national flower of South Africa, native to the Cape fynbos. In an arrangement they read as strength, resilience and distinctly South African pride.

How long do proteas last in a vase?

Proteas are among the longest-lasting cut flowers you can buy. With the water topped up every second day, the vase kept out of direct sunlight and away from a fruit bowl, expect two to three weeks of beautiful arrangement — sometimes longer. After that, many proteas dry beautifully in the vase and can be kept as a permanent sculptural piece. Our flower care guide covers the specifics.

Is the Protea Vase Arrangement a good gift for him?

It is one of our most-sent birthday flowers for him and gifts for him orders for exactly this reason. Proteas are bold, sculptural and unfussy. The display-ready vase format works for executive desks, hospital recovery rooms, milestone birthdays and corporate sends with no need to find a vase or trim stems.

Is the Protea Vase Arrangement suitable for sympathy or a funeral?

Yes. Proteas are one of the most-requested flowers for South African sympathy and funeral sends because they carry dignity rather than softness, last far longer than most cut flowers, and feel rooted in the local landscape. The vase format means the bereaved family does not need to find a vase during a difficult week.

Is the Protea Vase Arrangement a good corporate gift?

Yes. The sculptural shape, dignified palette and display-ready format make this one of our most-sent corporate flower orders. We deliver to reception desks, founder offices and event venues daily across Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Do you guarantee the flowers will stay fresh?

Yes. Every Fabulous Flowers arrangement is backed by our 5-day freshness guarantee. If your flowers are not in beautiful condition five days after delivery, we will replace them.

Can the Protea Vase Arrangement be delivered same-day?

Yes, in Cape Town and Johannesburg, for orders placed before 12 pm Monday to Saturday. We dispatch from our Claremont, Sea Point and Johannesburg studios.

Do you deliver the Protea Vase Arrangement nationwide?

No — the water-filled glass vase combined with the weight of proteas does not travel safely by courier. Same-day delivery is restricted to Cape Town and Johannesburg. For nationwide sends, our silk flowers range includes high-quality silk protea arrangements that ship anywhere in South Africa in 2 to 4 business days.

Is the fishbowl vase included?

Yes. The clear glass fishbowl vase is part of the arrangement and is theirs to keep. The vase becomes a permanent piece of home decor long after the proteas are dried or pressed.

Where do the proteas come from?

Every protea is grown in South Africa, mostly within a few hours of our Claremont studio in the Western Cape — the only region in the world where proteas grow natively. This keeps the carbon footprint low and the vase life longer (fewer days in cold storage). For more on why that matters, read our piece on sustainable gifts.

Is the Protea Vase Arrangement a good Mother's Day gift?

Yes, especially for mums who love wilder, more sculptural flowers over traditional pastels. See our top 10 Mother's Day gift ideas for more send options, or our Mother's Day flowers range.

Can I add a card or chocolates to the Protea Vase Arrangement?

Every arrangement leaves the studio with a free handwritten card carrying your message. Chocolates, non-alcoholic champagne and other add-ons can be selected at checkout.

Can I order more than one Protea Vase Arrangement for a corporate or event send?

Yes. We deliver multiple Protea Vase Arrangements daily to corporate reception desks, hotels and event venues across Cape Town and Johannesburg. Email info@fabulousflowers.co.za for orders of five or more.

Fabulous Flowers and Gifts Fresh Flowers Care Instructions

Fresh Flowers

Find a Vase: Your lovely blooms need a drink! Put them in your favourite vase with fresh water as soon as possible.

Trim Those Stems: Keep those stems fresh by cutting them at an angle. This allows more water up the stem. Checking and trimming the stems every few days will keep them sound.

Gently Strip Leaves: Remove any excess leaves, especially from the part of the stem that will be submerged. This helps to avoid rot and bacteria, which can shorten your flowers life span.

Remove Old Blooms: Drooping flowers release ethylene gas, which may accelerate the aging of other flowers. Strip off any dead or dying flowers to keep the rest of the bouquet looking bright and fresh.

Keep Them Cool: Place your flowers away from heat sources such as heaters, televisions, or ovens to retain the beauty of your flowers.

Clean Water: Always place your flowers in clean water. Refresh your vase with water daily or at least every second day.

Gift Boxes

Storage Tips: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to keep contents in perfect condition.

Handling with Care: Handle this box gently so as not to damage the delicate items inside.

Freshening: If your gift includes foods or beverages, please refer to the individual product use-by and expiry dates and the informational materials regarding storage recommendations:

Plants

Watering: Ensure your plants are hydrated but avoid overwatering. Check the soil moisture regularly and water it when the top inch feels dry.

Light: Place your plants in a spot where they receive the appropriate amount of light. Some prefer bright, indirect light, while others thrive in low-light conditions.

Feeding: Feed your plants with a balanced fertiliser every few weeks during the growing season to keep them healthy and vibrant.

Pruning: Regularly remove dead leaves and trim back overgrown branches to encourage new growth and maintain the plant shape.

Humidity: Some plants thrive in high humidity. If needed, mist your plants occasionally or place a humidifier nearby to create a favourable environment.

Artificial Flowers and Plants

Dusting: Your artificial flowers and botanicals should be lightly dusted regularly with a soft cloth or feather duster.

Light Washing: For deeper cleaning, please use a cloth lightly dampened with water and a small amount of mild detergent. Gently wipe the leaves and petals.

Avoid Direct: Sunlight Do not place under direct sunlight in order to prevent colours from fading.

Fluff and Arrange: Just fluff up petals and leaves to remain fluffy. Set them in position as desired to look natural.

Personalize: Gift your flowers, Gift Boxes, and Artificial Flowers and Plants with the Care They Deserve; they will be a Source of Joy and Elegance for you. The charm of fresh flowers, the delight of a thoughtful gift box, and the endless beauty of an artificial plant all special moments created by Fabulous Flowers and Gifts.

Please Note: Due to the seasonal nature of flowers and availability of specific items, the contents of our bouquets and gift boxes may vary throughout the year. We strive to substitute any unavailable items with products of equal or greater value, ensuring that every gift you receive is fresh, beautiful, and of the highest quality. Thank you for your understanding and for choosing us to celebrate your special moments.
