What Is in the Duchess Flower Box

Blush pink roses do the talking, their outer petals brushed with a soft antique green that makes the pink glow warmer. Around them, white gypsophila, the flower most of us know as baby's breath, drifts like mist. Everything is arranged into a dome and set into a crisp white hatbox tied with satin ribbon. If boxed flowers are her love language, our A Box Full of Lovely and Love in a Gift Box arrangements continue the theme beautifully, while the Sundance Bloom Box and Sweet Pea Bloom Box bring the same idea in sunnier and softer moods.

What Do Pink Roses and Baby's Breath Mean?

Pink roses symbolise grace, admiration and gentle affection, the kind of love that does not need to raise its voice. Baby's breath stands for innocence and everlasting devotion, which is why it has followed brides down aisles for a century. Together in one box, they say I admire you, softly and certainly. It is a combination that suits mothers, daughters, godmothers and the friend who held everything together this year. For more in this palette, our vintage pink roses and pink peonies are close cousins.

When to Send Duchess

Send it for a birthday that deserves better than a gift card, a christening or the arrival of a baby girl, a graduation, or a grandmother who keeps every ribbon. Because the arrangement arrives finished, it is perfect for offices, hospital visits and anyone who does not have a vase to hand. Explore more gifts for her, browse our baby's breath flowers, or see every style of gift box by type. Welcoming a little one? Our guide to flowers for a baby girl will point you the right way.

Same-Day Delivery in Cape Town and Johannesburg

Duchess is arranged fresh on the morning of delivery and hand-delivered by our own team, upright and unbruised, across Cape Town and Johannesburg. Order before 12pm, Monday to Saturday, and it arrives the same day, whether she is in Newlands, Bryanston or the Foreshore. Browse everything in our same-day flower delivery collection, or compare it with our hand-tied flower bouquets if she would rather do the arranging herself.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do flowers last in a box?

Five to eight days on average, and often longer with a little care. Duchess is arranged into a concealed water source inside the hatbox, so the roses keep drinking after delivery. Keep the box away from direct sun and heat, and top up with a little water every two days.

Do boxed flowers need water?

Very little. The arrangement holds its own water supply inside the box. Add a small splash between the stems every couple of days and the roses will reward you for the week.

What flowers are in the Duchess box?

Blush pink roses with soft green outer petals, surrounded by white gypsophila, better known as baby's breath. Each one is arranged by hand in our Claremont studio, so expect gentle seasonal variation between boxes.

Can Duchess be delivered same-day?

Yes. Order before 12pm, Monday to Saturday, and we hand-deliver the same day across Cape Town and Johannesburg. It travels upright in the box, so it arrives exactly as it left the studio.

What can I do with the hatbox and flowers afterwards?

The white hatbox is designed to be kept: jewellery, letters, ribbons, whatever deserves a home. As for the roses, our guides to drying flowers and pressing flowers show two lovely ways to keep them forever.

Is a flower box better than a bouquet?

Neither is better; they are different gestures. A boxed arrangement arrives finished and needs no vase, which makes it ideal for offices, hospitals and surprises. A bouquet is for the person who loves arranging flowers herself. If in doubt, the box always lands.
