This Oncidium orchid is unlike anything you will find at a garden centre. Imported directly from Amsterdam, each plant carries two graceful spikes covered in dozens of star-shaped blooms in the richest burgundy wine, softened by delicate lavender-white lips. It is the kind of plant that stops people in the middle of a sentence.

Also known as the dancing lady orchid, this variety gets its name from the way the petals fan outward like a dancer mid-twirl. The effect is stunning when both spikes are in full bloom, creating a cascade of deep colour that fills a room with warmth and presence.

What You Will Receive

Your Oncidium orchid arrives as a healthy, flowering plant standing approximately 40cm tall with two flowering spikes. It is presented in a 12cm nursery pot, elegantly gift-wrapped in our signature charcoal-grey and blush-pink paper, ready to give the moment it arrives. Each bloom cluster is dense with flowers, and several unopened buds will continue to open over the coming weeks, extending the display for up to eight weeks with the right care.

This is a limited edition import. Once this consignment is sold, it will not be restocked until the next seasonal shipment from Holland.

Oncidium orchids prefer bright, indirect light and moderate watering. Allow the top layer of the growing medium to dry out between waterings. They enjoy slightly cooler temperatures than Phalaenopsis orchids and appreciate good air circulation. Avoid placing them in direct afternoon sun.

How long will the Oncidium orchid flowers last?

With proper care, the blooms on your Oncidium orchid can last six to eight weeks. Buds that have not yet opened will continue to bloom over this period, extending the display. After flowering, the plant enters a rest period before producing new spikes.

Can I order this orchid for same-day delivery?

Yes, same-day delivery is available throughout Cape Town. Place your order before 12pm to qualify for same-day delivery. Orders placed after 12pm will be delivered the following business day.

Is this orchid available for delivery outside Cape Town?

This limited edition Amsterdam import is only available for delivery within Cape Town. Due to the delicate nature of the plant and the care required during transport, we do not ship orchids to other cities.

Trim Those Stems: Keep those stems fresh by cutting them at an angle. This allows more water up the stem. Checking and trimming the stems every few days will keep them sound.

Gently Strip Leaves: Remove any excess leaves, especially from the part of the stem that will be submerged. This helps to avoid rot and bacteria, which can shorten your flowers' life span.

Remove Old Blooms: Drooping flowers release ethylene gas, which may accelerate the aging of other flowers. Strip off any dead or dying flowers to keep the rest of the bouquet looking bright and fresh.

Keep Them Cool: Place your flowers away from heat sources such as heaters, televisions, or ovens to retain the beauty of your flowers.

Clean Water: Always place your flowers in clean water. Refresh your vase with water daily or at least every second day.
