The Ultimate Valentine’s Day Romance Guide

The Ultimate Valentine’s Day Romance Guide

There are many ways to express love to your partner other than quoting the actual words "I Love You." Usually, the fire in relationships dies down after a while and the feeling of your heart pounding with the excitement of being with your significant other is not felt nearly as often, or even at all.  However, that doesn’t mean that love’s fire can be rekindled day after day.

So, how do we get back that love, passion and warm feeling that wraps around us and penetrate our thoughts at the beginning of a relationship?  How do we get the relationship exciting, alive and romantic?

Many say actions speak louder than words so below we have listed 5 secrets of seduction to help you show your partner how much you truly love them:

1. Flirt

This is a light-hearted seduction with the intent of conveying love! Why not send a sexy text message or email while you are at work? This reminds the other person that you are thinking about him or her. It also increases the intensity of love so that you actually look forward to seeing each other when you return home from work.

2. Candles

According to Feng Shui, the seduction candle is red and the ingredients are musk, patchouli, pine, cedar and juniper. This secret of seduction can put back the romance in your relationships. Why not fill your room with scented candles and turn off the lights just to relax in each other's arms? The extra effort goes a very long way!   The light that candles emit is soothing, calming and heart-opening.

3. Food

It is said that "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach," however this is also thought to be the secret of successful seduction of women too. Show your love by setting up a surprise dinner for two. Add fabulous flowers, soft music and incense to create a romantic love nest. Aphrodisiac foods such as oysters, chilli, chocolate, figs, honey and walnuts are said to aid in the stimulation of your loved one's hormones.

4. Love Letters and Poems

Why not leave a love note for your loved one? This can be posted in the bathroom or kitchen before you leave to work. You could also leave a nice love poem under the pillow so that your partner finds this at night before bedtime or first thing in the morning. Or send a handwritten love letter to their work address. This will stir up the feeling of love in the privacy of your bedroom as well as in your relationship. Inspiration can be taken from music or love poem books.  Try Rumi, Rainer Maria Rilke or William Shakespeare.

5. Get Away to the Cape Winelands

There can be a lot of distractions in your relationship such as work or children. There are many short holiday spots available for the weekend or just for a day. You may arrange a trip to the Health Spa or a Hotel so that you are in a different environment than usual where you can both relax and concentrate on each other.  Being present with yourself and your partner in your relationship is a game changer and one that will keep your connection flowing.

Using the five techniques above to show your significant other just how much you truly love them will certainly spice up your love life, strengthen your relationship, and keep you and your partner happy for years to come!

Long lasting relationships are made of…

Good relationships don’t just happen. We have delivered over 100,000 flower bouquets over 19 years and we’ve read many message cards, delivered many apologies and thousands of surprises.  We work with love every day.  The real relationships take a serious commitment to doing the work on ourselves and in the partnership.  There are no such things as quick fixes in this life; real love takes hard work.

We’ve come to realise that there are seven choices you can make that will not only improve your relationship but can turn a failing relationship into a successful one.

Take responsibility for yourself

This is the most important choice you can make to improve your relationship. This means that you learn how to take responsibility for your own feelings and needs. This means that instead of trying to get your partner to make you feel happy and secure, you learn how to do this for yourself through your own thoughts and actions. This means learning to treat yourself with kindness, caring, compassion, and acceptance instead of self-judgment. Self-judgment will always make you feel unhappy and insecure, no matter how wonderfully your partner is treating you.

For example, instead of getting angry at your partner for your feelings of abandonment when he or she is late, preoccupied and not listening to you, not turned on sexually, and so on, you would explore your own feelings of abandonment and discover how you might be abandoning yourself.

When you learn how to take full, 100% responsibility for yourself, then you stop blaming your partner for your upsets. Since blaming one’s partner for one’s own unhappiness is the number one cause of relationship problems, learning how to take loving care of yourself is vital to a good relationship.

Kindness, compassion and acceptance

Treat others the way you want to be treated. This is the essence of true spiritual life. We all yearn to be treated lovingly and with kindness, compassion, understanding, and acceptance. We need to treat ourselves this way, and we need to treat our partner and others this way. Relationships flourish when both people treat each other with kindness. While there are no guarantees, often treating another with kindness brings kindness in return. If your partner is consistently angry, judgmental, uncaring and unkind, then you need to focus on what would be loving to yourself rather than reverting to anger, blame, judgment, withdrawal, resistance, or compliance.

Kindness to others does not mean sacrificing yourself. Always remember that taking responsibility for yourself rather than blaming others is the most important thing you can do. If you are consistently kind to yourself and your partner, and your partner is consistently angry, blaming, withdrawn and unavailable, then you either have to accept a distant relationship, or you need to leave the relationship. You cannot make your partner change ñ you can only change yourself.

Learning instead of controlling

When conflict occurs, you always have two choices regarding how to handle the conflict: you can open to learning about yourself and your partner and discover the deeper issues of the conflict, or you can try to win, or at least not lose, through some form of controlling behaviour. We’re all learning many overt and subtle ways of trying to control others into behaving the way we want: anger, blame, judgment, niceness, compliance, caretaking, resistance, withdrawal of love, explaining, teaching, defending, lying, denying, and so on. All the ways we try to control create even more conflict. Remembering to learn instead of control is a vital part of improving your relationship.  Love is the only true healer.

For example, most people have two major fears that become activated in relationships: the fear of abandonment or of losing the other - and the fear of engulfment or of losing oneself. When these fears get activated, most people immediately protect themselves against these fears with their controlling behaviour. But if you chose to learn about your fears instead of attempt to control your partner, your fear would eventually heal. This is how we grow emotionally and spiritually by learning instead of controlling.

Create date times

When people first fall in love, they make time for each other. Then, especially after getting married, they get busy. Relationships need time to thrive. It is vitally important to set aside specific times to be together to talk, play, make love. Intimacy cannot be maintained without time together.

Gratitude instead of complaints

Positive energy flows between two people when there is an attitude of gratitude.î Constant complaints create a heavy, negative energy, which is not fun to be around. Practice being grateful for what you have rather than focusing on what you don’t have. Complaints create stress, while gratitude creates inner peace, so gratitude creates not only emotional and relationship health, but physical health as well.

Fun and play

We all know that work without play makes Jack a dull boy. Work without play makes for dull relationships as well. Relationships flourish when people laugh together, play together, and when humour is a part of everyday life. Stop taking everything so seriously and learn to see the funny side of life. Intimacy flourishes when there is lightness of being, not when everything is heavy.

A wonderful way of creating intimacy is to do service projects together. Giving to others fills the heart and creates deep satisfaction in the soul. Doing service moves you out of yourself and your own problems and supports a broader, more spiritual view of life.

If you and your partner agree to these 7 choices, you will be amazed at the improvement in your relationship!

Valentine’s Day gift ideas for Cape Town lovers

The world over in February couples celebrate Valentines Day with laughter and promises of undying love. The celebration knows no barriers and whether 4 or 80 years old, people with hope treasure the phrase “Will you be my Valentine?”

Mid- Feb heralded in ancient Rome, the coming of spring and even in pre-Christian times people celebrated a fertility festival with great joy. Much later the festival celebrated on Feb 14th was in honour of St. Valentine who is believed to have signed a letter to his beloved on his death bed as “from your Valentine.”

Red hearts, beautifully wrapped chocolates, balloon bouquets, and so on flood the markets and most young men are in a quandary as to what will make a memorable gift.  It’s a personal choice and you know what your Cape Town sweetheart would like.

Here are a few ideas to set your creativity rolling if you’re needing some assistance.

1. Abandon all ideas of dinner in a crowded restaurant where couples will be jostling for space. Plan a special time for two either on a patio overlooking a garden or on a boat sailing down a moonlit river or sea. Choose to pack a picnic basket with foods that trigger beautiful memories. For example, perhaps the two of you had enjoyed chocolate doughnuts one day, or a pizza with toppings you both love or a cookie or heart-shaped cake specially baked by you. Take along music or compose a song to sing to him/her. Serenade him or her like knights used to on a bent knee.

2. If you have gathered many pictures or video clips of your time together then put together an album with specially written captions and a witty heading. Build more memories with all your special moments.

3. If you are going to be away on Valentines Day meet online for a special chat. Make it a cyber date, the World Wide Web will close up the distances.

4. Avoid the run of the mill activities and plan to go to an amusement park or fair. Have a rollicking time on the roller coaster.

5. If you know of a movie she has been dying to see get it and plan an evening enjoying the film.

6. If she loves gizmos get her a digital camera or video phone.

7. Don your apron and chefs hat and cook a special meal.

8. Pamper her by gifting her a session at a spa she loves.

9. Plan a weekend get-away and take her somewhere special.

10. Pot a special plant for her. One that will grow and bloom along with your relationship.

Valentines Day is special so consider something unique. Most people will not have the spirit of adventure in them and try something different. They feel safer going with the crowd and presenting their love with cards, red balloons, hearts cut out of red paper or fabric, Lindt chocolates, or a dinner at a fine Cape Town restaurant. Dare to be different and you will be remembered.

What flowers and colours should you send your Valentine?

There's the traditional Valentine's Day rose and a box of chocolates but we're in the business of making things fabulous and this annual event is not all about the red.  In fact, times have changed and Cape Town lovers are looking for a luscious combination of pinks and reds, or orange and purple blooms included.    After all, love is a rainbow display of affection.

Take a sneak peek at some the products on offer for your special someone by clicking here.

Are you finding yourself single around Valentine’s Day? What is true matching about? It is about people that seem to be made for one another.   Are you ready for a relationship but no one has come your way?  Are you being too fussy?  Perspective is necessary when dealing with matters of the heart.

1. The first you have to do is be honest with yourself, knowing who you are and what you are about. This issue tightly depends on your self-esteem, so work it with gentle care for your self.  Meeting the man or women of your dreams is a process of self-development, self-love and self-care.  Many teach that you have to embody the person you want to be in a relationship before they will manifest in your life.  Keep in mind a good image of yourself, this is the essence of being ready for your love!

2. Remember that unless you are ready to meet the love of your life, it won't come for you, because everything depends on how much you want it to happen. Wise men say that when you really want something, the whole Universe rearranges itself for making your wish come true. And believe me, there is enough room for everybody's desires. So let your desire grow stronger every day.

3. After you take a good look at yourself, hear what Mother Nature whispers in your ear about looking for someone of certain looks and physical features that suits you best. Did you know that soulmates almost look like one another? That soulmates may be so very different in appearance but still so alike? What makes them look alike, may ask, if he is dark-haired and she is blonde, or if she is black and he is white? There is that certain something named chemistry which makes them get connected and harmonise their everything: mimics, gestures, reactions. So before you get yourself connected, make a mental picture of your potential soulmate in every single detail of its appearance and all you have to do is recognise him when you look around! It is very important to know exactly the way you want it to be.

4. I can hear some of you saying that things are as difficult as easy they seem to be because matching is a complex scenario. I am telling you that things are difficult only when we do not know what we want and don't have enough faith that Nature will work for us and solve the complexity of matching scenario: habits, hobbies, humour, sharing the same values, location, background. Concentrate on the solution of the matter, not on the issue itself, do your part of the job faithfully and do not worry.

5. Obviously that none of us wants to become haunted, obsessed by an ideal of love that never shows up, right? That's why you have to cut the belt, free the mind of your desire (which has already put to work the invisible engines of the Universe, believe it or not !) and do your usual stuff.

6. And here comes the tough part: waiting! Wait for a while and let the Nature action for how long as it takes. Take into account that you have already helped Nature with your faith and your strong action. It's a mutual thing. In love, as in everything, you get what you give.

7. Finally, let me share a secret with you: don't to tell anyone you are about to meet your soulmate. The deepest desires must not be shared until they come true. Any interfering may disturb you from keeping a good image of yourself, letting your desire grow stronger, picturing in mind your soulmate, staying focused on what you have to do, letting your mind free and waiting faithfully.

But certainly, you may tell me when he or she comes around! So very soon, we hope!  Know that you ARE deserving, you ARE special and you ARE beautiful.

Flowers can be purchased from local florists, like us Fabulous Flowers.  If purchasing flowers to be shipped, make sure someone is waiting to accept the order and that they are not left with the mail on a back porch in the sun all afternoon until someone comes home from work. Flowers are shipped without any water supply, and neglecting them for hours on top of the shipping time can take days off their lifespan.

If you buy tropical flowers like heliconias or gingers, or if you are lucky enough to live in the tropics and have them in your garden, here are a select few tips to help them thrive and to extend their shelf life as cut flowers.
